FAQ
What LED strips work with it?
Standard addressable strips (e.g. WS2812 / "NeoPixel"-style). Connect them to the outputs and set your pixel count in the app.
Does the controller support DMX or Art-Net?
Not yet. DMX and Art-Net support are currently in development and are among the highest priorities for future updates. DMX input will be added through an optional DMX-to-USB-C adapter that plugs directly into the controller. This will allow the controller to receive DMX data from lighting consoles and trigger effects, colors, and other functions. Art-Net support is also planned, allowing the controller to integrate with lighting software and network-based control systems. As with all new features, community feedback plays a big role in development, so if there's a specific workflow or compatibility you'd like to see, let us know.
Can I use the OctoRig Controller DMX software, or other lighting consoles?
Not at this time. The OctoRig Controller is designed to be controlled through the OctoRig software and does not currently offer direct integration with DMX consoles, or other third-party lighting control software. The software supports customizable keybinds, so if another application or controller can send keyboard inputs to the computer running the OctoRig software, it may be possible to trigger effects and other functions indirectly. OctoRig is an actively developed platform, and support for additional hardware and software integrations is being considered for future updates based on community feedback.
How do shows sync to music?
Build a show in the Show Creator timed to a Spotify or YouTube track, or use sound-reactive effects that respond to live audio in real time.
Is the app free?
Yes — the app is completely free right now, and will stay free for at least the first 6 months after launch. Down the line a small subscription (most likely around $4.99 USD/month) may be added to cover cloud storage, user-data protection, and ongoing updates — you'll get plenty of notice before anything changes.
How long does shipping take?
Every OctoRig is made to order, so shipping can take up to 2½ weeks depending on stock and order volume. You'll get a shipping confirmation as soon as yours is on the way.
