What we're building
OctoRig ships new firmware and software constantly. Here's a full look at everything on the bench right now — split into the hardware and the software — and where your feedback lands.
On the bench
2 in progressUpgraded controller — 5–30V support
In testingThe goal of the upgraded controller is to support a much wider range of LED strips by allowing you to choose between common voltages such as 5V, 12V and 24V.
The voltage supplied through the controller's main power input will be passed directly to the LED outputs. An internal voltage regulation system will independently regulate and stabilize power for the controller's internal electronics, allowing them to operate properly regardless of the LED supply voltage.
Ethernet & DMX adapter
In developmentThe Ethernet and DMX adapter is being developed to allow the OctoRig controller to communicate with external lighting equipment and control systems.
The adapter is intended to support Ethernet input as well as DMX input and output, allowing OctoRig to integrate with external lighting control decks, software and other DMX-compatible equipment. Input and output layouts will be configurable directly through the OctoRig software.
In the app
4 in progressArt-Net & sACN protocol support
In developmentArt-Net and sACN communication are currently working as expected over Ethernet. Wireless communication over Wi-Fi is also being developed, but it is not yet stable enough for release.
Optimization of wireless performance will continue, while wired Ethernet support will be introduced first in the next software update. This will begin expanding OctoRig's compatibility with external lighting controllers and software.
Position-aware mapping & matrix support
In developmentThe current Layout Designer allows you to configure multiple LED sections and shapes, but it is not yet position-aware and does not currently support LED matrices.
A major redesign of the mapping system is underway to allow you to create more accurate representations of your physical LED layouts. This will provide significantly more flexibility for irregular configurations, custom shapes and matrices, while allowing effects to move and synchronize seamlessly across multiple sections.
A working beta version of the new mapping system is planned for the next software update.
Expanded MIDI support
In developmentBasic MIDI support is currently available, but its functionality is limited and the configuration process is not as user-friendly as intended.
The next expansion of MIDI support is focused on improving the mapping system and adding support for controls such as knobs, sliders and other continuous MIDI inputs. This will allow you to control effect parameters dynamically and create more flexible live-control setups.
Scriptable & shareable effects
PlannedThe goal of scriptable effects is to give you the ability to create completely custom effects while still taking advantage of OctoRig's existing systems.
Scripts will be able to access established features such as the audio-reactive engine, effect parameters, sliders and other built-in tools. This should make it possible to create highly customized effects without requiring every component to be built from scratch.
Custom scripts are also planned to be shareable through an effect library, allowing you to publish your creations and download effects made by other members of the OctoRig community.
At this stage your input directly steers what gets built next — what you report and request shapes the roadmap.
Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Octo Creative Technology LLC ("OctoRig," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the OctoRig desktop application, firmware, controller hardware, and the octorig.com website (together, the "Services"). By using the Services you agree to this policy.
1. Who We Are
OctoRig is a product of Octo Creative Technology LLC. For any privacy questions, contact us at Support@octorig.com.
2. Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account information — when you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials (managed through our authentication provider).
- Content you create — light shows, effects, palettes, and related project data you choose to save to the cloud, along with any "baked" audio-analysis data associated with a published show.
- Orders & purchases — when you buy hardware, our e-commerce provider (Shopify) collects your name, shipping/billing address, contact details, and payment information to fulfill your order. We do not see or store your full payment-card details.
- Support communications — messages you send us by email or community channels.
Information collected automatically
- Usage & device data — basic technical information such as app version, operating system, and error/diagnostic logs used to keep the Services working.
- Website cookies — our website and store use cookies for essential functionality, cart/checkout, and (where enabled) analytics. You can control non-essential cookies through the banner or your browser settings.
Audio
OctoRig reacts to audio to drive lighting effects. Audio is processed locally on your computer in real time to generate lighting data. When you "bake" a show, we store the resulting lighting/analysis data (not a recording of your microphone or a copy of copyrighted audio) so the show can be replayed. We do not record, upload, or store raw microphone audio.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide, operate, and maintain the Services (accounts, cloud sync, show library, updates).
- To process and ship hardware orders.
- To respond to support requests and communicate important notices.
- To fix bugs, improve features, and keep the Services secure.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Third-Party Services
We rely on trusted third parties to run the Services. Each processes data under its own privacy policy:
- Supabase — cloud database, authentication, and storage for accounts and saved shows.
- Shopify — online store, checkout, and payment processing.
- Spotify / YouTube — optional music integrations you choose to connect for building shows; use is governed by their terms and privacy policies.
- Email/hosting providers — to deliver messages and host the website.
5. Data Storage & Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access controls on cloud data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations. You can delete your saved shows at any time, and you can request deletion of your account (see below).
7. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, email Support@octorig.com.
